Last week I meet up with a handful of fellow bloggers for an early Christmas lunch in Leederville and there I learnt about the power of a white tablecloth.
Some of you may remember the old Italian restaurant that used to be on Oxford Street. The scene of many a crowded, boozy lunch, dinner or hangover cure breakfast, until it sat languishing empty for many years. It’s recently reopened as Thai Spice on Oxford.
First impressions count, or so they say, and the front of house definitely wins on this front. While the bones of the building are the same, the feel is very different. For me it’s the addition of white tablecloths that instantly turned an average lunch date into a special occasion. The large room out the back also looks very different with a bamboo rickshaw and city skyline imagery that makes you forget you are in Leederville …
I was proud of the fact that we managed to place our orders after the second time the waitress asked. Often it takes several more attempts before a waitress can wrangle a group of lunching ladies together.
While we all eyed off the Pad Thai it was considered a sin for a group of bloggers to order the same dish. Instead the table was soon festooned with …
The red curry special that included a spring roll and curry puff for $19.00
Papaya salad
Thai Beef Salad
The food was superb, fresh, flavoursome and perfectly sized.
The service was excellent too, the waitresses happy to take photos with all our phones, well what do you expect from a group of bloggers. They even happily refilled our water jug, at least eight times, while we three stragglers giggled our way through a recap of our Sexpo ventures.
As I write this I ponder … why did three grown women feel the need to whisper when talking about Sexpo? Why, when our giggles grew in volume, did we start to get concerned that we might be asked to leave? Was it something in our upbringing, or was it as I choose to suspect, something to do with the crisp white tablecloths? Do you feel different in a restaurant with tablecloths?
I highly recommend Thai Spice on Oxford, for more information click here
